Founded in 2000 by Kostas and Angela Mavrikis, the Museum of Alonissos is the largest privately owned folklore museum on this Northern Sporades island. Located just 30 meters for Patitiri village’s harbor, the stone-built four-story museum houses numerous historical artifacts found on Alonissos.

If you’re a history buff or just love to get a taste of the island’s past, you’ll enjoy the museum’s collection of artillery, utensils, and other items commemorating the lives of the island’s inhabitants and Aegean pirates. Inside, you will find a number of exhibits that bring to life the island’s traditions and past. These include the Alonissos at Work display featuring old olive presses, as well as barber, baker, carpenter, blacksmith, and carpenter workshops. Next up, you’ll get a taste of warfare throughout the years as you veer through memorabilia and artifacts belonging to various eras including that of the National Resistance.

The Pirates of the Aegean exhibit examines the interesting, exciting, and chilling piracy years. In the pirate room, you’ll get inspect up close a collection of authentic pirate treasures, weapons, and items belonging to both sea-robbers and their avengers. In the museum’s entry hall, you’ll find a tribute to the development of photography over time through an exhibit of old cameras, photography equipment, and accessories ranging from early age to digital cameras.
